What is a Nightstand? What Is It Used For?

The nightstand, one of the furniture pieces that complete the bedroom, is usually designed as a set for two. It can be thought of as a small desk with one or two drawers. In this state, the drawers of the nightstand function as a storage area. Arranging the nightstand with decorative products will help to give the bedroom a nice look.

What to Put in the Nightstand?

No matter how many drawers it has, the nightstand can be used to store many different kinds of items in the bedroom. If there is more than one drawer, it can be arranged from the most used items to the least used ones while placing them from the top to the bottom.

You can put items in the nightstand that you can use after going to bed or that you may need during the transition to bed. Naturally, what these items will be will be personal to the individual. For example, special items such as lotions, combs, watches, chargers or glasses. In addition to these, socks, underwear or accessories can be placed inside the nightstand.

How to Arrange the Nightstand?

Products on the nightstand should be both functional and decorative. In this way, they both offer a pleasant appearance and provide functionality by storing items that may be needed in the bedroom.

You can first place a light source on a nightstand to be used in the bedroom. This can be a lampshade or table lamp that will act as a night light. The vertical shape of the accessory you will use to give a pleasant appearance will help you to prepare a more spacious environment.

If you are going to place accessories such as vases, photo frames, jewelry or alarm clocks on the nightstand, you can pay attention to choosing them in different sizes, long and short. Thus, you can add depth of field and perspective to the room.

If you want a refreshing air in the room, you can place flowers on the nightstand in scents that will relax you. But do not forget to choose a vertical vase.

Nightstand Models

Bedside tables from bedroom furniture are usually made of wood. There are various types in terms of appearance and use. It is possible to come across many nightstand models prepared by designers to be compatible with base, dresser and wardrobe.

Standing Commode

In pedestal bedside cabinet models, one-drawer models are more common. It may seem disadvantageous compared to nightstands with more than one drawer as a storage area. However, they are very suitable options for small bedrooms as they take up less space.

Drawer Nightstand

In fact, all nightstand models have drawers. However, each one can have multiple drawers or be prepared as a nightstand complete with shelves, depending on the touch in its design. The drawers of multi-drawer bedside tables may be narrower than single-drawer bedside tables. The reason for this is that the nightstand should be in the appropriate size with the bed.

Wooden Nightstand

Wood adds a natural look to any environment. You can create a warmer space by choosing a wooden bedside table in your bedroom. Wooden models are also very advantageous in terms of durability.

Metal Nightstand

Metal nightstands can be designed with drawers or as a coffee table. While the number of drawers is usually single in drawer models, it can turn into a design wonder by being decorated with special details such as glass. Metal nightstands with a coffee table look, on the other hand, are preferred by those who like difference with their modern look.

How Should the Bedside Sizes Be?

The nightstands can be designed in different sizes according to the place of use in the house. Bedside tables, which we are used to seeing more often in bedrooms, can be preferred in living rooms or corridors to add decorativeness to the environment.

The interior volumes of the nightstands, which are used in the bedrooms with the thought of keeping the items, have an important place. In the size of the nightstand, you can pay attention to the interior volume of at least 40 cm x 40 cm. You should know that a nightstand with a height of less than 10-12 cm cannot be used comfortably.

What Should Be Considered While Buying a Nightstand?

When purchasing a nightstand, it is worth paying attention to its compatibility with the bed size and other furniture for a decor that is as pleasant as the price of the bedside table. Since the nightstand is usually placed on the sides of the bed, the bedside table, its size varies depending on the space left by the bed. The height of the nightstand is designed to be as high as the mattress of the bed.

Among the nightstands with a design suitable for the bedroom decor, you can come across varieties such as glass coated and marble top. Among these stylish-looking models, the long-lasting ones are wooden nightstands. If you like traditional style, wooden bedside tables are for you.

Although wooden nightstands are sturdy and healthy, they are known for their high price. As an alternative to wooden nightstands, it is possible to come across with chipboard lam or MDF coated nightstands. Among these, the thickness of the chipboard can be noted in the nightstands made of chipboard lam material. For nightstands made of thin chipboard, prices will be slightly lower.

Since nightstands are a very common piece of furniture, it is important that the drawer rails or slides are of good quality. Otherwise, it will break down in a short time and cause you to have problems with turning it off and on.

Differences Between Nightstand and Dresser

Even though the nightstand and the dresser are both complementary furniture of the bedroom, there are fundamental differences between them. The nightstand is the furniture that is lower to the floor than the dresser and usually has one or two drawers. Dressers, on the other hand, are designed with 4 or 5 drawers and, unlike nightstands, vertically.

The nightstand and dresser may also show some differences in terms of use. For example, the dresser is mostly the place where daily and foldable clothes are stored. Nightstands, on the other hand, are more commonly known as underwear or furniture where special items are placed.
